Niel Gow (1727-1807) was a renowned Scottish fiddler. He wrote this lament after the death of his second wife. Sometimes that detail is included in the title of the song. Search online to read more about this famous musician and his compositions.

If you are a Royal Recorder Knight you will know most of the notes in Niel Gow’s Lament, but there are a few new ones. They are both high notes.
